battlefield 2 windows 10

I'm on Win10 and randomly BF2 and/or BF2 AiX 2 crashes to desktop randomly while in game. i have the disc version but when i open it up it is a black screen and i get an error that i need directx 9.0 :( does anyone know where i can fix this?

The bots are extremely smart and work as a team to capture locations and kill enemies.
