The movie mines laughs from Diana’s struggles with modern fashion—lifting skirts above her waist and high-kicking in tight dresses, shocking many an early 20th-century onlooker. She simply does not understand how people could act this way. Ares has also killed all of the gods with the exception of Zeus himself.
The feminism of the film is sly. But the battle left Zeus mortally wounded, and his last action was to craft a sword called the “God killer,” capable of terminating Ares if and when he returned. She treats action as a dance of sorts, with important characters having their own distinctive styles so that nothing ever feels repetitive.
Regardless of all of that, this is still a great superhero movie and, as mentioned, this should have been DC's first step in their attempts to create their own cinematic universe. Wonder Woman was the only shining beacon of hope in the horizon, the chance to (finally) do a female superhero movie right.
But, and to me this is most important, the whole thing needs to not be so dark and serious.

Another thing that bothered me is that, ultimately, the fighting DID stop after Diana killed Ares and, I don't know, I feel like that's too simplistic of a conclusion for something as complex as the first World War. The plot however pans out as you might expect, in the usual comicbook fashion. The main problem for me is simple, superhero fatigue.
Kinda reaching a bit methinks. The action gets a thumbs up from me as if that wasn't obvious. Well actually no it hasn't but that was the idea wasn't it. Just below that it reads "Ticket Confirmation#:" followed by a 10-digit number. It’s seen in moments when characters of color comment on their station in life and Diana faces sexism from powerful men who doubt her intelligence.
Or maybe not. Still, it’s nice to see the DC extended cinematic universe gain its footing again.
